My mom and sister are PE teachers, so they are a great resource for ideas on how to incorporate movement into my speech and language groups. This fun activity was inspired by my sis (thanks lady)!
I am debuting my YouTube channel with my first every VLOG demonstration of this activity! I tried to sound as natural as possible without having the super cheesy feel, but after about 5 takes of trying to get it “just right”, I said “To heck with it!” So, if you love this video subscribe and give me a shout out for other topics you would want for future videos!!
Here are some of my kiddos in action. I used this activity with my five year olds al the way through to my 4th-5th graders. We used it as a body movement break, following directions, building MLU, teaching noun derivation and social skills for following the leader. Some of my most quiet kids were giggling the loudest in my groups because of course I had to be SILLY during this whole thing in order to get “buy in” from my little speechies.
I made up different movements that the kids had to imitate. Here we have a “skier”. I made a little visual in case you have little ones that need help with remembering the different winter sports. I let each child be the “leader” and tell us what to do!
Here is a gracefully executed “skater” pose! Grab my free visual for your little ones that may need some pictures to help support the words for the different winter sports HERE!
