10 Resources To Help An SLP Have A Fabulous Year
1. Pinterest
Whenever I need therapy planning inspiration, I usually go here first. I love searching for resources just by typing in a theme or target area. If I had pinterest back when I first started, I know that my therapy would have been so much easier. You can follow all my boards HERE (I pin stuff all the time)!
2. TeachersPayTeachers
After I search pinterest, I usually hop on over to TeachersPayTeachers to purchase/download the resources I found on pinterest. It has been such a life saver to find resources that I need specific for my caseload. You can find lots of resource goodies in my TPT store!
3. Themed Therapy SLP membership
Let someone else take lesson planning off your plate and use the Themed Therapy SLP membership to plan engaging themed units for your preschool and elementary students. Save time and reduce feelings of overwhelm with speech therapy lesson planning.
4. Speech Pathology.com membership
If you need to keep up your CEU’s, but don’t have a ton of extra cash or weekends available to go to professional development training, I can’t recommend SpeechPathology.com (invitation link, I get some money for your referral) enough! You can take courses at your own pace, it is only $99 a year and you can take unlimited courses. When you have those PD days and your district doesn’t know what to do with the speech pathologists, you could convince your district to get you subscriptions! Then, you can get relevant information you need for your students and your district doesn’t have to plan specialized PD for you. If I had a question about a disorder or treatment area, this resource had a lot of useful information. Plus, you can get your CEUs covered, win, win!
5. SLP Toolkit
SLPToolkit is a digital application that you can use to improve SLP’s efficiency with completing progress reports. It also has an amazing scheduling tool that you create your caseload schedule and update weekly if you want! I love that everything is digital, but can be printed for a paper trail. You can read more about my review HERE! For this month, my followers can get a month for FREE or $19 off the yearly subscription using the code: dabbling19
6. ReadWorks (FREE resource)
Read Works is a free website that you can find reading comprehension texts by grade level, with answer keys! It has informational text and fictional text. The passages will even let you know the key vocabulary in the passage. You can use these passages to teach vocabulary, grammar, progress monitor wh-question goals and use it for articulation carryover!
7. Behavior Management System
At the start of the year, you need to develop a behavior management system. You will probably tweak and change your system over the year. Having a plan for your expectations keeps everyone happy! When I know how I am going to deal with unwanted behaviors, I am better at being flexible and patient. I recommend doing a system that works for your style of teaching.

I figured out a structure/flow to my therapy sessions, set up my behavior expectations, and made a concerted effort to build relationships with students and make lessons student interest driven to increase opportunities for authentic engagement.
I got rid of my prize box years ago because I was tired of keeping it supplied with toys. The past year, I focused on creating an engaging learning culture.
Here is my Facebook LIVE about Why I Got Rid Of My Prize Box. Here are some other behavior management resources in my TPT store!
8. Gym membership
Most of us know that working out is a great way to reduce stress and boost energy! Sometimes trying to incorporate this in our lives after a long day is tough. I need someone motivating me to stay active. I love having classes where the instructor just tells me what to do. Then, all I have to do is actually motivate myself enough to get there. Exercise has really helped with managing stress, so I encourage you to find a gym that will fit your exercise style!
9. Word Vault App
Word Vault App from Home Speech Home is an app that has tons of resources for SLP that is free! You can get a monthly subscription for $5.99 that allows you to have access to lots of data tracking and audio features. This app covers both articulation and language skills, so it is great for those days that you need a grab n’ go therapy item!
10. A Creative Outlet
We are focusing on our students ALL. DAY. LONG. As educators we can only sustaining that kind focus on others is difficult. Although the blessings of focusing on others is amazing, it is also good to take time for yourself. We need time for ourselves to re-charge, so we can continue to serve our students. To stay creative, we must find ways to ignite our creativity!
There you have it! 10 Resources to help an SLP have a fabulous year. I wish all of you the best year! There will be lots of unknowns and times of doubt, but those are often the times that I thrive.
