When I think of behavior management, I think of the song “Titanium”. We have to be bulletproof… when they fire away we have to stand strong!! We can’t fall down, we gotta be Titanium!! In this episode, I reassure other SLP’s that we are all out there in the trenches trying to help our students engage in our therapy sessions. If they are engaged, they are meaningfully involved in our learning sessions.
in this episode: You’ll hear:
- How to frame structures and routines that also encourage positive behavior management skills.
- How to create a format to your lessons to help streamline your routine more efficiently.
- How following the classroom behavior management system will help reinforce what the students are familiar with, and how that can help you be more consistent.
- Why it’s important to have visual support for activities.

Creating Behavior Routines blog post has some links to research and other tools that you can use to help create consistency with the expectations in a session. If you need visual supports to help teach the behavior routines for walking to speech, reading a book, working in a group, going to the library, playing a game, working in the classroom and many other activities, check out how you can visually show your students the expectations and reinforce those expectations by visually cueing them in a session!
