As a kid, I remember having “ants on a log” as a yummy healthy snack that were fun to make and tasted really good. Yesterday, I made ants on a log with my students in my 2-3 SDC classroom who are working on sequencing, verbs and increasing MLU. I used a step by step visual to show what we had to do next. I had the students go wash their celery, then I cut the celery and then the students had to ask for the peanut butter, and raisins. We worked on using the verbs open, wash, spread, put, eat, wipe, clean, and cut.
After we made our snack, I decided to bring in a classic kid favorite of mine, “The Ants Go Marching” because I have several little ones that love music. I made these cute little ant puppets with the die cuts at my school.
With my fluency and articulation students, I had them make a picture using some of the die cut ants that I made. They got to glue a couple of ants on the picture and then had to draw items at their picnic that the ant wanted to take back to his ant hole. My fluency students had to use their strategies to tell me what was in their picture.
My /r/ kids did the same thing using their “sharp r” while describing their picture. Hopefully you can see the student’s drawings in the picture because it doesn’t have the best clarity. Hope your week is going well! I am having lots of Spring Fever!
